What do we learn in Advance Public Speaking?
The following learning goals are specific to the Advance Public Speaking course in addition to the overall learning goals.
Audience Analysis and Adaptation
In the Advanced Public Speaking course, students will master the art of audience analysis, learning to assess and adapt to their audience as they speak. They will explore various organizational styles and patterns, such as comparison/contrast, categorical, spatial, chronological, biographical, cause and effect, problem-cause-solution, and psychological, to structure their speeches effectively. The course will emphasize the importance of adapting to different social circumstances and practicing code-switching to connect with diverse audiences.
Ethical Speaking and Critical Thinking
The course will delve into ethical speaking, teaching students to use ethical and accurate language and to motivate others with their stories while maintaining honesty and respect. Critical thinking will be a key component, enabling students to analyze and evaluate arguments, recognize fallacies, and understand the logic and roles of argumentation. Students will learn to utilize their identity, upbringing, and culture as strengths in their speeches, becoming experts in socializing and gaining respect from others.
Vocal and Non-Verbal Delivery
Students will refine their vocal delivery skills, focusing on tone, volume, articulation, pauses, and word stress to enhance their speeches. The course will also cover the use of body language and other non-verbal communication techniques, helping students convey confidence and clarity. Emphasis will be placed on using ethical and accurate language to ensure integrity and respect in their speeches.
Visual Aids and Advanced Techniques
Students will learn to design and use visual aids effectively, incorporating design principles to enhance the clarity and impact of their presentations. They will practice advanced techniques in vocal and non-verbal delivery, ensuring their messages are conveyed powerfully and persuasively. Through various exercises, students will become adept at motivating others with their stories and being ethical in their speech, ultimately becoming confident and respected public speakers.

Stage Performance
All students are invited and highly recommended to perform in our end of term showcase in a theatre to challenge their confidence! This stage performance is included in the tuition with no extra charge.
Report Cards (feedbacks)
In every term, the student will receive 2 separate report cards (midway and final) commenting on their progress on achieving their learning goals. Parents will get a copy of the report cards.
