Intro Public Speaking (ages 4 to 6)

What do we learn in Intro Public Speaking?

The following learning goals are specific to the Intro Public Speaking course in addition to the overall learning goals.

Anchor 1

Creative Thinking

In the Intro to Public Speaking course, students will be encouraged to think creatively and voice their ideas out loud. We want the kids to be able to express their thoughts freely and build their desire to speak.

Critical Thinking and Curiosity

Voice and Body Language

This course will teach basic speaking techniques, including how to project their voice to ensure they are heard clearly and how to articulate their words for better understanding. For example, students might practise reading short stories or poems aloud to their classmates, focusing on volume and pronunciation.
The course will also explore the use of body language beyond just hand movements, helping students to express themselves fully. They will engage in activities like miming different emotions or telling a story using only gestures and facial expressions, learning how their body language can complement their spoken words.

Active Speaking and Listening

Students will be taught to think critically, posing questions about things they agree or disagree with, and forming an opinion on various subjects. For instance, they might discuss a simple topic, such as their favorite book or movie, and then practice asking and answering questions about it. This helps activate their curiosity and encourages them to ask questions about the world around them.

The course will emphasize the importance of being an active speaker and active listener. Students will participate in group discussions, where they will practice listening to their peers and responding thoughtfully. They will also develop the skills to take the initiative in speaking, such as raising their hands to share their thoughts or ask questions during a class discussion.

Confidence and Daily Conversations

Finally, students will build the confidence to engage in discussions and daily conversations, learning to talk to one another effectively. Role-playing exercises, where students simulate real-life scenarios like ordering food at a restaurant or asking for directions, will help them apply these skills in practical situations.

Stage Performance

All students are invited and highly recommended to perform in our end of term showcase in a theatre to challenge their confidence! This stage performance is included in the tuition with no extra charge.

Report Cards (feedbacks)

In every term, the student will receive 2 separate report cards (midway and final) commenting on their progress on achieving their learning goals. Parents will get a copy of the report cards.
