What do we learn in Beginner Public Speaking?

The following learning goals are specific to the Beginner Public Speaking course in addition to the overall learning goals

Vocal and Verbal Skills

In the Beginner Public Speaking course, students will delve into the art of vocal delivery, mastering the nuances of tone, volume, and articulation to enhance their speech. They will learn to express their thoughts clearly and organize them into logical sequences, ensuring their message is conveyed with precision. Emphasis will be placed on crafting purpose statements to highlight the main ideas of their speeches.

Non-Verbal Communication

Body language and other non-verbal communication techniques will be explored to complement verbal delivery, helping students convey confidence and clarity. Understanding the role of the speaker will be a focal point, teaching students the importance of their presence and responsibility in delivering a speech.

Effective Listening and Interaction

Confidence and Speech Organization

Students will practice effective listening, a crucial skill for engaging with an audience and responding appropriately. The course will cover techniques for asking clarification questions during debates, promoting engagement and deeper understanding.

Through various exercises, students will discover how to use their voice effectively and practice overcoming fear, building confidence to speak in front of a crowd. They will also learn to classify and categorize ideas within their speech, organizing their content for maximum impact. Additionally, they will learn how to write compelling introductions and conclusions, setting the stage for their message and leaving a lasting impact.

Stage Performance

All students are invited and highly recommended to perform in our end of term showcase in a theatre to challenge their confidence! This stage performance is included in the tuition with no extra charge.

Report Cards (feedbacks)

In every term, the student will receive 2 separate report cards (midway and final) commenting on their progress on achieving their learning goals. Parents will get a copy of the report cards.
